Rommehed Malt

Our facility is located at Romme Gård in Borlänge,
we have a unique manufacture of malt smoking. We produce about 50 tons of smoked malt annually, which is used as raw material for production of Swedish malt whiskey. We also use some of the malt to or local product "akvavit" We use local grown malting barley, which we soake for about 2 days until the water content is right. Then we put the grains on a concrete floor and let it grow out for about 3 days.
We turn the grain by hand morning and night
to maintain the correct temperature. Then we move the grain into a kiln where we wipe and smoke the barley for about 40 hours. The fire consists of peat and juniper, which gives most one special character.
